In line with Vision 2030, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is projected to undergo significant population, economic, and industrial growth over the next twenty years. A key enabler of this growth is the power sector which is expected to generate a significant requirement for a highly skilled and specialized workforce in the power and energy sectors.
To address this challenge, the government of Saudi Arabia, Saudi Aramco, Saudi Electricity Company and King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) came together to conduct a feasibility study for the Kingdom’s power sector workforce. The study identified a considerable gap between workforce supply and expected demand, lack of collaboration between industry and existing technical training institutes and the need for new trades such as Smart Grid, Energy Efficiency, Solar, Wind and Nuclear programs. In conclusion, the study recommended to establish a world class industry-led National Power Academy.
